Professionally Equipped Input Channels
Soundcraft EQ is a legend amongst professional sound engineers and renowned the world over for its precision and musicality. At the top of all 8 GigRac input channels youll find a classic Soundcraft 2-band EQ section comprising of treble and bass rotary controls, allowing tone shaping of the microphone or instrument connected. Next comes an FX control, used to set the signal level sent from each channel to the GigRacs digital effects processor. The higher the FX send level, the more of the effect is added to the sound of that channel. For example, you may want a lot of reverb on the vocal mics plugged into channels 1 and 2, less on the vocal mics plugged into 3 and 4, and less still on the instruments plugged into the remaining channels. With GigRac, youre in control. Beneath the FX controls are the blue and red Monitor and Main channel level controls. These control the individual volume levels of all eight channels in 2 separate overall mixes: Monitor being what you and the band hear on stage via your monitor speakers and Main being what the audience hears via the main speakers. Its important to have independent Monitor and Main mixes as performers often need to hear certain elements of the mix louder (for example a keyboard or main instrument for reference), whereas the audience would require a balanced mix. The overall volume level of the Monitor and Main mixes is controlled via the master volume controls to
the right of the channel strips.

GigRac I/O
All 8 GigRac input channels have combined balanced jack/XLR input sockets to accommodate the widest possible range of microphones and instruments, and to minimise distortion and noise. The Pad switch at the bottom of channels 1 to 4 is used to reduce the level of particularly high input signals which could cause distortion by overloading the input. Channels 5 and 6 of the GigRac feature alternative stereo RCA/phono inputs beneath the combined XLR/jack connector, making it easy to plug in a CD, MD, MP3 or MIDI file player. Perfect for playing pre-recorded backing tracks or music before and after your performance, this facility also makes GigRac ideal for use in a wide variety of other applications including fitness clubs, hotels, outdoor events, etc. Channels 7 and 8 have an additional single jack input designed to be used in conjunction with the combined XLR/jack connector. This allows direct connection of stereo keyboards, samplers and other audio devices.

7-Band GigRac Graphic EQ
Even with the same setup, a performance can sound very different from one venue to the next. The way in which sound waves reflect and interact with surfaces and objects within a room (the acoustics) change the tonal quality of the overall sound, boosting some frequencies (sometimes to the point of feedback) and reducing others. Thats why the GigRac is equipped with a graphic equaliser, designed by the Soundcraft sister-company and world leaders in professional signal processing, BSS Audio. The graphic EQ enables the operator to boost and cut frequencies at 7 points to tune the overall sound to suit the acoustics of the particular venue.

Studio quality effects
GigRac has a total of 8 studio quality digital effects built-in, adding a professional finish to your performance. You can select from 5 reverbs, a chorus/reverb and 2 echo/delays, used to thicken vocal performances. Crucially, GigRac allows the digital effects to be added individually to the Main and the Monitor mixes, so you can hear the mix dry on headphones and via monitors, while the audience hears the Main mix complete with stunning digital effects. And by connecting a footswitch, its possible to turn the effects On and Off during a performance. If you want to use an external effects processor, its easy to connect via the FX outputs on the front panel. The FX send level controls on the channel strips can then be used in the usual way and the output of the external processor can be plugged into either a channel or the submix input.

Gigrac 1000
High quality and rack mountable.
I use this in my studio for recording and live practice, and it is perfect for both applications. Soundcraft is my choice for mixers because of the quality they build into their products. The GigRac 600 comes mounted in a durable portable case, but can be removed for rack mounting. It sounds great and the inputs will accept any standard connector. For me, it's perfect.Best bang for your buck!
I have been playing through the gigrac 600 for a few years with my old band. This this thing sounds great & takes a licking, too. Good clean sound for 600 watts (& plenty of power). When that band split up I bought one for myself. I use it with the Yamaha BR 15's. Talk about crisp, clean sound! Nice lows, even without a sub. If you're in the market for a quality easy to use (& transport) pa system, start with this.Well pleased
I am blown away with the quality of the Gigrac.
I am a street performer in London UK and even my fellow performers are commenting on the differance in Sound quality , the built in effects are also great .
I use to use a Phonic powerpod 620 and that one compared to the Soundcraft sounds really tinney and thin sounding. The Gigrac two band EQ are amazingly musical , I tend to put lots of treble on my vocals but it does'nt at all sound harsh but warm and sweet.A great small format P.A. head
This is a great little P.A. Amplifier.
I bought one of these a few years ago. After using it for 2 months I was visited by a Large Hurricane. It was in my storm damaged Van and was wet for a few weeks while I tended to my House. It was a little rusty around the edges but still worked fine.I decided to get another clean one and at that time the GiGRac 1000 had been released. So,I thought, more power and a few extras for not much more $$. However ,I had 3 of the 1000 watt models break down within weeks. The Company returned my money and said try something else. What I came to find out was they had changed the Toroidal Power Supply with a Switching Power Supply (That's how the got a 1000 watts out of it.) The Switching Power Supply is very sensitive and needed to be a higher Quality to work well. This is the reason for negative comments on the 1000 watt Gigrac. The Gigrac 600 (with the Toroidal power supply) is a stable and road worthy piece. It's limited power, 2 bands of EQ, decent but average quality effects make it suitable for small gigs but it is rackmountable which is a prerequisite of mine. So, I now have bought a second GigRac 600 and all is well. Thanks Sweetwater.GIGRAC 600
This unit has parts that cause failure in the power supply. 2 resistors that are called out as 1 watt rated are actually 1/4 watt, as factory installed. This is a failure point. R10 and R11.Let me down twice!!
Bought this new from Sweetwater (GigRac 600). I liked the features, design and sound, but had only used it a handful of times when it just stopped working at a gig (just wouldn't come on...no user error involved, just flat wouldn't power up). Luckily it was an outdoor folkie gig, and we managed to squeak by acoustically. The warrantee had just expired, but I liked it, so I took it to an authorized repair person who kept it for several weeks, then said that Soundcraft was discontinuing the model and they couldn't get the part needed to fix it. What went bad was some microprocessor chip that controls the fan speed/thermal protection, and wasn't allowing it to power up. I ended up having to write a letter to Soundcraft Corporate HQ, and shaming them into allowing me to send it back to the factory to get fixed. They ended up replacing the entire audio printed circuit board. Anyway, I got several more years of light use out of it (we don't play very often) and the same thing happened again, this time at a NYE gig!! No more Soundcraft for me. It sounded nice while working, but they designed it with an unreliable, difficult to replace microprocessor in the front end that craps out for no reason and makes the entire mixer go dead.Overrated
Didn't care for the effects, didn't care for the sound. came as a neat package with front and back covers. Was not impressed with the output. Sorry, but there are a lot of other products available that do the job better.
